LOCATION: Mairangi Bay shopping area
SITUATION: A practical solution was required to extend the use of the area outside the cafe all year round. Protection for cafe patrons from UV and direct sun were wanted, especially in summer, and from wind and rain all year round.
SOLUTION: Two waterproof shade sails were installed, each suspended from four poles, extending the weather protection provided by the shopping centre building, and preserving an open feel at the same time.
Cafe patrons like to sit under the sails in the fresh air all year round. They appreciate being able to do so with protection.

CLIENT: BLANKENBURG BELGIAN BEER CAFE

LOCATION: Bar/cafe in Takapuna shopping area, opening onto footpath.
SITUATION: The bar's street frontage area is popular with patrons who like to sit out of doors, but rain and wind were often a barrier to them doing so. In addition, the boundary between bar and footpath needed to be preserved to ensure shoppers could pass by unimpeded.
SOLUTION: Transparent PVC roller blinds with the Blankenburg Belgian beer cafe branding were installed to provide weather protection and mark the cafe's boundaries clearly.
The blinds clip onto folding eye pads at ground level. This allows the blinds to be quickly released and rolled up, or rolled down and fixed into place. The eye pads fold away when not in use, removing any barrier to pedestrians.
